We have a guest blogger today! One of my Open Studio students and friend, Tony D*. Heeeeere's TONY!
I started out as a card maker. One day in the craft store, I found wooden boxes and.....KISMET! I began making scenes within them, using Wendy Vecchi's Art parts, and figure objects as well as small pieces of furniture. In the midst of all this, I developed an EXTREME LOVE for anything and everything Tim Holtz, which helped me begin to incorporate the steam punk look in my work.
My world changed when I discovered art journaling and stencils and Ranger spray inks. When I met Diana, she introduced me to Gelatos and it was love at first swipe!
When I got my hands on one of Joggles shrines, my ol' box making skills kicked back in. I dessoed the entire shrine, then a coat of paint, and the fun began.
I started by stamping the outside & inside of the box walls, the front edging of the shrine, then came dimensional paints to give the antlers that swirled, 1960's look, and by simply dragging a tooth pick through the wet paint, the psychedelic look appeared.
I used a Joggles stamp for the shrine's inside background, and her head just fit with the antlers.
I added gems, steampunk ephemera, and then it was Holtz time! Knobs, black lettered blocks (Aunt "Ler"). .I laughed until my cat came to check on me! The small white deer, the bling on the stamped backgrounds hat rim, etc.....and you got yourself a Mixed Media Delight! I invite EVERYONE to experiment with the Joggles Shrines, they will REALLY get the creative juice's flowing, since there's so MANY techniques you can use to decorate them. Many thanks again to Diana, and Happy Crafting to everyone else!
Thanks to Tony for sharing Aunt-Ler with us today and for gifting me this marvelous piece. You are a delight.
Here are Joggles links* to supplies used on the shrine. Tony also shops the dollar stores, flea markets and yard sales.
