Woot. Are you ready? I'm working on the final video edits, putting together all of the lesson pdf's, looking up links. I'm so thrilled to be able to share this straight-forward, versatile stitch with you.
Create two basic books in this class: one 8" x 5" Hidden Spine and one 6" x 5" exposed spine. Learn the basic stitch and you can take it anywhere you want! There will be instruction for variations using beads, ribbons and different cover options. (Pictures next week). I've used a good art paper (Stonehenge) in the smaller book and text weight and junk paper in the larger book. These books are sturdy and lie flat when opened - a big plus for visual journaling.
Here are the pictures again.

Hi Diana, thank-you so so much for your lovely comments on my journal pages, your time and input is really appreciated. I regularly visit your blog and savour your beautiful hand-bound books and I must apologise for being completely useless at remembering to leave comments for you. I have to admit to being incredibly tempted by your new longstitch course but also honest in saying that it will probably have to wait until the new year. Heres hoping!!
Huge hugs x

Hi Diana, just to let you know, have just clicked on the "Buy Now" Button and I keep getting an error message. Will try again in a little while as it may be a temporary glitch. And will let you know if it works next time.

Hi Bev, The Longstitch, 2 Ways class is not coptic stitch. Longstitch is very easy and straightforward. I hope this answers your question

Hi Diana,
I just registered via Pay Pal but my email contact information is incorrect on the account. I put my actual email in a note (I hope you see it). Very excited about this course!

Dawn, no worries on lurking :) We all do that! I decided a while ago to format all of my online classes as permanent access, take when you can for just the reason you have: time money. Ive had the same problem!
Thanks for reading my blog, I appreciate your comment. I was a pleasure looking through yours!

Diana,
Do we have to make and use the fabric paper or is there another medium we can use for the covers? I'm concerned I don't have the skills to make the paper as I'm not very artistic.
Posted by: Jennifer | 11/20/2012 at 04:23 PM
Hi Jennifer, You definitely do not need to use fabric cloth for the cover! You can use any number of substitutes: lightweight leather, fabric adhered to paper with an iron-on adhesive. Ive listed these substitutes in the Welcome post, here.http://dianatrout.typepad.com/longstit/2012/10/welcome-to-longstitch.html
You could also use a heavier weight upholstery fabric. I can tell you that the fabric cloth is very simple to make. It doesnt required any artistic talent at all. Its simply a matter of applying thinned down glue to fabric and then laying down tissue paper on top of it. You dont even need to paint it!
Let me know how it goes and what youve decided to use as a cover, OK?

Fabric paper is easy and fun to make!
My question : does one need a sewing machine?
Posted by: Margaret Shank | 03/26/2013 at 07:20 PM
No sewing machine required, Margaret. You can hand sew on the paper or use it as is!

Hi Diana,
Before signing up for the online Book Binding class, I want to make sure that I understand accessibility to the training. Can I work at my own pace ? Is there any time frame assigned to the class? Will I be able to go back to the video's more than once? The reason is that I have a full time job that leaves very little time for "me", and I may need to backtrack to refresh where I left off at. I've been inspired by your art journals, and watercolors. I tend to get caught up in the fine details of a project, and I get too stressed about it looking just right. Your teaching is exactly what I need in that it encourages "expressing freely, without the bondage of perfection". I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Diana,
I just registered! I have been wanting to learn this bookbinding technique for years - plus, I think these books make perfect Christmas presents!
Thank you so much- can hardly wait!

Isabelle
