Inside my journal ...
are some flowers (watersoluble pen such as a Flair and gesso)
and sometimes someone else's flowery vision.
It doesn't have to be grand or important, you see? It can be a about a line that meanders across your page with whatever tool is handy. It doesn't have to be a "session" with your journal or a complete sketch. You don't need to put this pressure on yourself.
I'm thinking of a friend right now (you know who you are). She has a beautiful blank journal and very little time for artmaking. I get that. Her drawings and paintings are "for real." And I get that too. But really? A simple line won't go to waste.
There is never a wasted moment in life. Every single moment - at the end - is worthy.
Beautiful reminder diana, thanks!

Yes, a great reminder, indeed! Why is it that we feel that something HAS to be spectacular in order to be worthwhile? I was giving this some serious thought last night... an art journal can be for awesome work, sure, but it's also to play, test, and just mess around. It's the way we artists relax, regroup, whatever... and yet, the world seems to indicate that we are "wasting time" if we are not working on something productive, or going to make money with. Yet, others do things just to do them! Watching football, playing video games, don't even get me started on Song Pop (lol), but seriously... why is it that ART seems to have a predisposition to having to be Monet to be worthwhile? After all, there are millions of ART THERAPY classes out there! The purpose of those is not to be the next master artist, but to relax, feel, play, etc. I'm sorry to rant, I just don't understand this... our inner critic AND the world at large being critical.

I'm at the end of a school year, ready for 6 weeks holiday and some simple pleasures of my own - simplicity wins every time for me. More and more as the fenzy of end-of-year pressures and excitement mount up and get dealt with, I find myself just doodling simple shapes in my writing journal to calm my mind.
The last work-tasks will be completed today ad then I can get ready for the festive season and summer at the beach!
