In the Sketchbook. I don't usually work with complementary colors but thought I'd mess around a bit.
Mostly, I want the grays and the browns. And you get the best neutrals when you mix the complementaries together.
Add a speck of blue to a field of orange and it will instantly gray it down. More of one or the other complement and it goes to brown.
A very handy thing. Try it.
Orange and Blue will always make me think of my friend Jeff from high school who had bright orange hair (naturally and it was long and curly) and he always wore a denin jacket (we all did).
I can see him in my memory as clear as a bell right now.
I think I'll work with Yellow and Purple next.
More marks on paper ...
Reminiscent of fireworks, or flowers, or native head dresses... very pretty :)

Thanks, Jen. I am fond of the hairy caterpillar myself.

It's certainly the season for fireworks. They've finally calmed down around here. Kitty was have hissies. G-Side (my hometown) sure likes to celebrate the 4th!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE purple and red, the right vibrant shades of course! Maybe a little play is in order this evening. Yes, fireworks but I'm also reminded of asters rather than caterpillars somehow.

Hi Diana, I received a newsletter/prompt from Cloth, Paper, Scissors this week,
And was happy to read your great basics for priming a paintbrush & watercolor paper....
Great help for someone like me who jumps-in without previous instruction and ends up disappointed.....
Hope the summer going well,
Holly
